Nine patch

While going threw and decluttering I came across another old quilt I have. I do wish I could remember where I got it but I cannot. I washed it. I know that wasn't a good idea but not knowing where It came from I just had too or I wouldn't have it on my bed to even take pictures of it. You know what I mean......

I have a love for the nine patch and really for the old way of doing patchwork as you can see they didn't try and match up any fabric in this one....guess they just had to use what was on hand.
Some of the fabrics lasted ........

Some of the fabrics didn't last so good.

here is where it was pieced. I won't try to do any repairs.
Its to far gone for that. I have thought about putting it in side
of another quilt.....that way it will still be doing its job.
Or I may cut off the bad bottom two rows and save the rest just like it is....I would say its from the 30's what do you think.
The quilt in my header is my first one I hand
quilted. The top was all ready printed off. I
was still working at this time and it took me
almost 3 years to do.

I love old quilts, Trish. I had a couple and washed them and should've checked on how. Now, I'm more careful. You can take it to a quilting group and they could repair the top or like you said cut off the really bad part and make it unique - then it will really be a family quilt where it was updated along the years.
Blessings!

It seems that I am partial to the olden style 9 patch quilts. They aren't as beautiful as some of the more ornate ones...but there's just something about a 9 patch that seems homey and warm.
I've made several....think I will do another post on them sometime.

Still beautiful though... Even showing signs of wear. Just think of all these quilts DID, to be this lovingly worn....

Love old quilts. It would not be hard to repair. I would still keep it. You can still display it, just put the worn out parts inside the folds.

Beautiful old quilt! It looks like it was a very soft old quilt. It's hard to believe that someone spent hours making that quilt too for someone special in their life to use. It looks well loved!

Hugs,
Angela

I love quilts, all quilts, especially patchwork quilts. What treasures they are, and to me, symbols of simple life and an appreciation for simple pleasures. Lovely.

This old quilt is beautiful, too bad about the bad section, but guess if you cut it off as you said it would continue to be a lovely quilt for you.
Thank you for the birthday greetings.

your old quilt still carries an untold story, doesn't it? I would keep it as it is, too, as I've done that very thing with one I own-kept it to share a memory with.

Your blue top in the header picture is beautiful! Do you have it or was it a gift? I'd love to see you share more about it!

I'm one that would cut up the quilt and make something else to keep with it. I know that isn't always popular, but when it shreds, then what to do but re-purpose it. Cathy SBS
