Life & Chow Chow

Life has been in the fast lane this whole week..... so much so that I still have not gotten to see all the Rooster's from Shelia's Rooster Party that started on Tuesday. You wouldn't be disappointed if you go and see all the different roosters, hens, chicks. I just love seeing them.

I had a Dr.'s appointment myself Tuesday....he did a biopsy and ordered a mammogram....then Wed I took one of my little older lady friends (this one's name is Carol) to the Dr. then to therapy for her shoulder and then on to get a perm......this was going to take a couple hours so I went home and the hair dresser took her home.

We did not have time to go to Wally World as they call it.......... I get a kick out of some of they're saying.....so I went back Thursday and carried her to Wally World for grocery's and then to get a manicure.

I  didn't even know this place was in town it's the school for training....you can get hair cuts, massages, pedicures and manicures (now I did know there was a beauty school but not located where this one was) wow they took walk ins so I got me a manicure for six dollars..... are you shocked ......I was...... the last time I went to get a manicure and pedicure they charged me sixty five dollars and I never went back.....you know I'm all about being thrifty .......now I made me a appointment to get a pedicure next Tuesday they are just fifteen dollars.

Today  I went for my mammogram. I go back to the Dr. on Wednesday to get the result's.

While I was gone my Hubby was working  ( the power just went out and I'm sitting here thinking on no after writing all this it's going to be gone....think goodness it wasn't) here's what hubby was doing...........
Making chow chow. He looked it up on the web and found this recipe and so while I was gone he went to town and got what he needed and has this done before I got home on Wednesday.

It taste good too....how neat of him to do this all by himself...only thing I told him was to boil his jars and lids.
Green Tomato Relish AKA (Chow Chow)

12 large green Tomatoes (cored)
(I used about 20 small to med size)
4 - green bell peppers, seeded
4 - medium yellow onions (I used one very large one)
1 - red bell pepper, seeded
1 - tablespoon + 2 teaspoons yellow mustard seed
1 - tablespoon celery seed
2 - cups cider vinegar
2 - cups granulated sugar
1 tablespoon + 2 teaspoons kosher salt

Chop the tomatoes and peppers very finely. Either by hand or in small batches in a food processor. I diced up all my veggies only because I like a chunkier relish. Put the chopped vegetables in a large pot (heavy bottom non reactive pot) add the mustard seed, celery seed, vinegar, kosher salt and sugar. Stir well and bring to a simmer over medium heat. Cook stirring often and skimming as needed. ( I did not have to skim off anything) Simmer until the relish/chow chow cooks down and thickens into a relish, about 2 hours. Turn into hot sterilized jars and process in a hot water bath.

That was great of your husband to make the chow chow. I love chow chow and haven't made it for years.
