Alicia's Quilt

After I became unable to work I wanted to try my hand at making a quilt top again. I had only made one top some twenty years ago. I had hand quilted a top about fifteen years ago but that is nothing like making a top. I had lots of scraps of fabric given to me by my mother and aunt they had acquired over the years from sewing factory's which have been long gone.

I searched patterns that I could use the small pieces on and came across Quilters Cache where I found the pattern I used Planned Patchhood.

My oldest granddaughter Alicia liked it, so I gave it to her and this started my quilting for my grand children. I used flannel sheets as batting and the backing fabric I got for forty nine cents a yard so this quilt didn't cost much at all.She loves it, that is all that really matters. God Bless
Trish

Ooohh! I REALLY love this quilt! I saw a similar one, but it looked too Red Cross to me. But, I think that was because it had red crosses on it. ;) I love the multi-colored crosses on yours. Very pretty! How did you quilt it? It looks like diagonal lines...yes? I might have to copy cat this one. It's so pretty and as you said, perfect for using up scraps!

Hi Trish,

What a thoughtful idea. I understand why Alica liked it. Have you started new quilting projects since? Thanks for sharing. I'm visiting from Sunday Favorites.

I love quilts made using family fabric memories. I don't quilt myself, but just posted this about my cousin's quilt with family memories yesterday:

I do so many creative things, painting, cross stitch, blogging, gardening etc. but I have always had the greatest respect for quilters. I have too many other projects waiting so I can't take on any new hobbies but if I could it would be quilting.

Lovely patchwork quilt! I have only managed to make one quilt in my life -- a crib-sized patchwork for a great-nephew. I look forward to seeing more of your quilting. My Mom made a quilt for me when I was about 20 years old, with scraps from old clothes I'd worn when I was a teenager, from jeans to prom dresses. I loved it, and used it till it absolutely fell apart.

Best wishes, Cass

Hi Trish...

My friend, your quilt is gorgeous! You're right...this is a great pattern for utilizing small pieces of fabric! I'm sure that your sweet granddaughter is really enjoying it! My dear Grandmother quilted and really made some beautiful quilts. She made each of her grandchildren a quilt as well! Thank you so much for sharing your beautiful quilt with us for Sunday Favorites this week, Trish...what a treat!!!

Have a marvelous Monday, my friend!
